Front garden with parking
DESIGNER: JANE INGE

The client brief on this Victorian town garden was to provide sufficient driveway to park two cars so that both could be taken out independently. The view from the main window needed to be screened from the cars and the bus stop opposite. The design needed to reflect the heritage of the house but fit with a modern lifestyle.

       'blue clay pavers in drive'

The slop up from the road enabled the designer to create a circular raised bed repeating the blue pavers of the drive in the new wall. This wall was set back from the road to discourage passersby from sitting on it. The centre circle of blue pavers was laid with blue slates and groundcover planting. Two vertical slate standing stones linked the colours of the drive and wall and provided a focal point from the window. Deep planting beds under the window allow sufficient planting to screen the car.

'slate standing stones and planting'

Large cut slabs of Sandstone set amongst Thyme leads from the parking area to a larger stone area by the front door.

The planting is soft and lush in summer and the colours compliment the house and drive.
