Small triangular garden
DESIGNER: JANE INGE

Not only was this an unusual shape but there was a level change of one metre up from the back of the house to the lawn. There was no access except through the house.

The client brief was to create a contemporary style to reflect the rooms inside. The focus was on making spaces for entertaining friends and family. This would have to work for either a small intimate dinner or a large party. Paved areas for tables and chairs were to be offset with a single lawn and large planting areas. A new access was required into the garden.

              'existing patio and wall'
The design worked with the strong shape of the boundary. The lower paved area was set at 45 degrees angle to the house and framed with a rendered wall. A built in L-shaped bench set into this wall provides the intimate dining area. This lower area continues behind the garage through planting beds to the new gate at the side.

      'deck and water feature'

      'Lower patio viewed from deck'
A shallow flight of steps leads up to the sun deck, which replaces the large pool.

The low maintenance planting consists of a strong framework of clipped box, evergreen groundcover and perennials for summer/autumn colour.
